Customer Reviews:
  • Allows for play up to 25 feet away...sometimes
I bought the Nyko wireless sensor bar for my Wii because I have a very long living room, with a couch roughly 18 feet away from my entertainment center, so a sensor bar promising to work up to 25 feet away sounded like exactly what I needed. Unfortunately, the sensor bar only works from that kind of a distance about half the time, and the rest of the time, it hardly works at all.

The problem is actually with the Wii's sensor technology itself. The bar doesn't actually sense anything. It merely contains lights that the Wii remotes detect and then determine where they are in relation to the sensor bar and tell that to the Wii. What this means is that, when you have a lot of sunlight pouring through your living room, this can mess with the Wii remotes' ability to sense the light from the sensor bar.

The bottom line: my Nyko wireless sensor bar works exceptionally well AT NIGHT, but during the day time, it is actually less effective than the traditional Wii sensor bar, requiring you to stand less than six feet in front of it in order to sense you, no matter how many times you reprogram the sensitivity settings on the Wii. Granted, this is only likely to be a problem if you get a lot of sun in the room where the sensor bar is. My solution has been to use the Nyko wireless sensor bar AND the regular Wii sensor bar right on top of it at the same time. This gives me average performance during the day and superior performance at night.

Also, despite what this thing promises, I've already made the mistake of leaving it on several times and have come back the next day to discover that it did not power itself off. I don't know if there's something defective about mine, but assume that your bar won't power off either. Even if it does, having to turn the bar on every time you turn on the Wii is a slight annoyance.

All in all, the biggest warning I can give you about this sensor bar is that it's results may certainly vary if the room in which you plan to use it gets a lot of sunlight. Don't be too quick to get rid of your old sensor bar. Using the two in combination is your best bet (unless the wire is the whole reason that you are getting this one).
  • Range not as good as advertised
This bar doesn't give the extended range that it advertises. I'm pretty disappointed in that. I get maybe 1 or 2 feet more out of this one than I did out of the standard wii sensor bar. Not cool.
  • Great
This wireless sensor bar for wii is awesome!!! It is incredibly accurate and comes with 4 batteries. I recommend this for sensor bars!!!
  • Battery runs out to quickly
It has a short battery life and it is a hassle replaceing batterys every other time I use the wii
  • It's a good sensor bar, but buyer beware.
Let me start off by saying that this is the sensor bar that I bought and am still using. It works just fine and performs exactly as advertised. In fact, I'd even be willing to say that it probably performs better than the sensor bar that's included with the Wii Console. Like many other people, I purchased this product after the cord on the original sensor bar was damaged. I've found that this bar has a much better range than the original one, and it seems to be more sensitive. If you're debating buying this and wondering whether it works or not - it does indeed work and work very well. However, if you spend a great deal of time on the Wii and are thinking of purchasing this unit, be prepared to spend A LOT of money on AA batteries. This thing EATS batteries; I think I have to replace the batteries in the sensor bar more often than in the Wii Remotes. Lithium batteries (like Energizer L91BP-8 Lithium AA Photo Battery (8-Pack)) are a little bit better, but they're also much more expensive and still have to be replaced at fairly regular intervals. The only problem is that if you go to a big retailer (Wal-Mart, Target, etc), you don't really have much choice. Even here on Amazon, pickings for a reliable sensor bar replacement are slim. I'm not saying not to buy this product; as I said, this is what I have and it's what I use. I would definitely recommend this product - it's durable (more so than the original, in fact), portable, and works very well. However, you should be informed that it can be cost-prohibitive because of the battery requirements.
