Customer Reviews:
  • great size
This thumb drive is really great and truly looks like a key. The size is perfect for me. Works under Win7 with no issues (just plug and go), by default it's formatted with FAT32 (my guess for compatibility with MAC), I reformatted it to NTFS.

The only issue I have is ... well the size. Since it's so thin, it does not fit into USB port as easy as any other USB device. I would recommend this key to users who don't need to plug it to computer every day, this is really for casual users.

  • Misleading package
the item product was misleading, because I ordered an 8g and found out that it's only a 4g with the option of having an additional 4g online storage. Not at all what I was wanting or expecting. No where on the descrption when ordering did it state that. So if you want a true 8g, you have to order the 16g. Watch out.
  • Worked but dead in less than 6 months
I thought this was the bees knees, but alas, it's not reading anymore. Purchased in Feb, dead in July. I'll be following up on the warrenty.
  • Connection became "loose" after 6 months
I really loved the design and was a little skeptical about it not having an upper portion to hold it securely in the female portion of the USB port...low and behold, 6 months after using it it decided to not interface with the slot correctly. I could wiggle it maybe 100 times and it would finally show up, luckily that worked and i was able to get some sensitive docs off of it.

I contacted Lacie and through a little bit of a long feedback form process they had me send it back and are sending a new one.

i'm not totally convinced it won't happen again, good design idea for looks, not so good functionally maybe?
  • function over performance
I believe i have been through at least 10 different USB thumb drives in the span on the past 2 years. Most of the drives were able to be keychains but had the thinnest metal ring to secure it. It was really suck when i needed my thumb drive and it wouldn't be on my keychain.

So, the Lacie iamaKey was the perfect thumbdrive for me.

    Pros:
    - Great design, who can complain about how thin and small it is.
    - nice solid hole to attach to your keychain, it really will never fall out.
    - well built, i actually sat on it many times and it is currently bent, but it still works.

    Cons:
    - slower than average transfer rates. i am a graphic design student and i tend to transfer large files constantly for my project, yes it is slow. BUT, not that slow to make me go crazy, its really not that bad.
